Causes of Damp Walls and Rising Damp
Rising damp and damp walls can arise for various reasons:
Complete absence of damp proof course from construction of property
Breakdown of existing damp proof course due to age or poor installation
Incorrect method of re-plastering
Bridging, when external ground level is higher than the internal level
Condensation and high moisture areas
Inadequate plastering specification
Solutions for Damp Walls and Rising Damp
At Mercian Preservation, our surveyors have years of experience in diagnosing the cause of all damp walls and other moisture related issues. Firstly, we identify all problem areas and go about multiple checks to determine the first cause of rising damp. We then test walls for the amount of moisture they are holding and thereafter offer our advice and solutions.
We have solutions to problems caused by rising damp that involve creating a barrier against it using a water repellent resin within the wall itself. This prevents further moisture from rising into the wall from the ground, though other sources of moisture must still be eliminated.
