Difference between Penetration Damp & Rising Damp

Penetrating damp can be from driving rain, leaking gutters, defective adjoining roof coverings, defective seals to windows doors etc. On the other hand, rising damp is where dampness from the ground travels up the wall by a capillary action and there is either a defective, failed or no damp proof course installed to stop the progress of the moisture.
An inexperienced or untrained surveyor may mistake one for another and recommend a course of action which will be unnecessarily disruptive and possibly expensive. Worst of all it is also probably not required and will simply disguise the true cause of the problem.

Reliable & Trained Surveyors

It is important to get reliable and properly trained surveyors like us to check out the problem fully before arriving at any conclusions. Firstly, our expert surveyors carry out checks to determine the exact cause or quite often multiple causes of the penetrating damp. We then carry out the necessary repairs to prevent the ingress of the moisture.

Once the initial causes have been correctly dealt with, we install the necessary products such as our damp proof membranes, liquid membranes or chemical plaster additives to the affected areas. Any affected timbers will be removed and replaced if required before the area is treated with fungicidal chemicals to ensure that there are no future issues with wet or dry rot.
